Former City players want to join other NSL clubs

FORMER Lae City players are calling on Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) and Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) board to grant them late transfers to join other clubs.
Former City captain Raymond Gunemba claimed last week that the sacking of coach Peter Gunemba on the last day of the transfer window was not a coincidence but was staged to prevent them from joining other clubs.
He said the players were ready to move on after they had walked out on the club over the coach’s sacking.
“The coach’s sacking a day prior to the close of the transfer window was planned in a way to leave us with no choice,” Gunemba told The National.
“A number of NSL clubs are showing interest to recruit the players but we know we have to follow processes put in place by the governing body.
“We have appealed to PNGFA to look into the current situation and have some understanding to allow us to continue the season with the teams that we join.”
It is understood that Emmanuel Simon and Jacob Sabua, part of the group of players who initially boycotted City, have returned to the Bob Morris-coached Morobe franchise.
However nine players, including Gunemba and Nigel Dabinyaba, are without a club for the remainder of the season.
PNGFA general secretary Dimirit Mileng said the competition had a strict transfer policy for every club to follow regardless of their situation.
“The competition has a regulation which every club must follow to allow for transparency and accountability,” he said.
According to the policy, there are two transfer windows with the first one opening in the offseason and the second opening for a week prior to the completion of the first half of the season.

  • Congratulation to Jacob Sabua and Emmanuel Simon for making a very divisive decision to return to the club. To others who acted unwisely following their emotions (In the likes of Ray and Nigel) you may want to swallow your pride and go back to Lae City Club.. walking out the doors in such a manner is very childish and unprofessional of such professional players like you. No wounder, consequently you were displaying your arrogance in your very pathetic move…As your true patriot, I would encourage you so badly to refrain from your stubbornness and join ends with Jacob and Emmanuel…I don’t think IAN CHOW fired you and the players, he only fired Peter Gunemba because of your poor performance in Oceania Challenge recently and every citizen of Morobe Province and Papua New Guinea would agree predominantly over the decision. As someone who OWNS the Club and Invested Millions in this team, he expect something positive from the Coach to deliver and he have all the 100% rights to make any decision he deem most appropriate for the betterment of the team..
Please consider going back to LAE CITY or you will loose everything prepared for your.

    Thank you,

    Your Country Man
