A FORMER councillor in Western Highlands has praised the government for its K13 billion budget.
Anis Tiki, from the Hagen rural local level government, described it as a first of its kind.
He said the money needed to reach the people at the village level, which was where everyone would experience change.
“Previous budgets did not reach the people and now it is K13 billion. I think that this is too much so people have to have a piece in it,” he said.
“This time I want to appeal to our good MPs to use funds wisely and in an honest way to benefit the population,” Tiki said.
He said people handling and distributing the funds must use them for the right purpose.
“You are paid MPs and have been mandated by the people and whatever rightfully belongs to the people must be given to them,” he said.
“There have been a lot of stealing and misuse in the past and we do not want this to be repeated.”
Tiki said there had to be a team to go around and check on funds allocated and spent as that would keep people honest.
“I was a councillor and never experienced such money reaching the LLGs, so I salute the government which is doing well for the country.”
Tiki, a former councillor of the Yamka tribe, said previous governments and their budgets never reached the people but he was confident thing would be different now.
He said some of the good polices of the government were free education and health services.
“This is the type of leadership that we want.”
Tiki said the country was heading to the right direction and HE urged parliamentarians to spend wisely and honestly so that everyone could benefit.
