Former envoy sworn in as a judge

 JUSTICE Panuel Mogish has welcomed the appointment of Sir Kina Bona as a judge of the National and Supreme Court, saying he brings good experience in government administration.

Sir Kina was appointed as a judge for a term of 10 years. His appointment brings to 32 the number of judges in the country.

Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio swore in Sir Kina. The ceremony was witnessed by relatives, friends, Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika, Justice Ambeng Kandakasi and acting judge Justice Leka Nablu.

Sir Kina, 60, is from Kwoto Island near Samarai, in Milne Bay. He is married to Lady Judith and has a daughter, Hannah.

Sir Kina was a former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, registrar of the Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates Commission and a public prosecutor.

Sir Kina was a president of the PNG Law Society and the senior legal counsel with the Albatross Law Firm. 

Sir Kina’s daughter Hannah said she was very proud to see her father being appointed a judge. 

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Ano Pala, in a statement, said Sir Kina “brings with him a wealth of experience in legal knowledge and administration”.
