FORMER kiap and Finschhafen open candidate Kevin Kevengu has withdrawn his challenge against incumbent MP Theo Zurenuoc’s election, saying it is in the best interests of the district and its people.
He announced the decision for personal reasons and because of negative effects on the district.
“I am a typical Burum, I spend money to help the people during their time of need but at the elections, they brought in another person and supported him, so why should I dispute the election of Theo Zurenuoc? “Why should I waste my time, money and resources challenging him in court?” he asked.
“As an educated elite from Burum, I congratulate Theo for his win as a Finschhafen man and who has been recognised as a national speaker, which is a credit to Finschhafen and Morobe province,” he said.
“While it is our democratic right as candidates to challenge, we should also think of the effect it’s going to have on our people, especially the consequences of the court.“The other candidates have their democratic right to do whatever they want but I withdraw as I don’t want to be part of it.” Kevengu said the election was over and called on the speaker to gather the leaders to work together to develop the district which was currently reeling from the recent floods and landslips.“I am a kiap by profession and I am willing to help, I want to provide technical and field assistance. I don’t want to be involved in domestic politics.”
