FORMER PNG international striker Hans Gewebin has described Team Morobe’s campaign at the PNG Games as “ill prepared”.
And he has blamed the Morobe sports administration for the poor performances of their athletes.
Gewebin said he was disappointed with the Morobe men’s and women’s soccer teams, which lost the finals to Milne Bay and Madang.
“Losing the title to Milne Bay is a joke because Morobe were beaten by total unknowns,” the former international said.
“This indicates that the smaller centres are better prepared and trained to come and upset the established associations,” he said.
Gewebin said Morobe sports officials did not select the best athletes and players for the Games.
He called for an overhaul of the Morobe sports administration and the appointment of qualified sports administrators.
Gewebin is currently coordinating sports development in the Markham district, especially among young soccer players and athletes.
“The only way for our youngsters to be better players is not just to train and play well but to be identified and nurtured.
“We have to get serious and be better prepared for the 2014 PNG Games,” he said.
