FORMER Moresby North East MP Labi Amaiu was taken in for questioning by the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate in Port Moresby on Wednesday in relation to misappropriation of district funds says director Matthew Damaru.
Damaru said Amaiu was picked up at the Waigani Court House on Tuesday and taken to the directorate for questioning, however, his supporters caused a commotion outside the directorate’s office.
“We had to let him go, however, we have told him to come back in on Friday to be questioned in relation to the allegations of misappropriation of close to K4 million from the Moresby Northeast
DSIP (district services improvement programme) funds during his term as the MP,” Damaru said.
The director also denied that Commerce and Industry secretary Andrew Liliura had been brought in for questioning.
“If he was indeed arrested and charged it was not by our directorate and we have no knowledge regarding that case,” he said.
However, NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou told a media conference on Tuesday that Liliura was arrested and charged with one count of sexual harassment.
