A FORMER national soccer manager says he doubts Pacific Games venues will be completed on time.

Peter Seski was responding to comments by former Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare, who raised doubts about the level of the preparedness. Seski, who was in Port Moresby last week, said the Pacific Games should have been split between Port Moresby and Lae as was the case in 1991.

“With four months left, how quickly can the contractors get these venues completed in time for the opening ceremony?” Seski asked.

“I have seen some venues demolished but work hardly progressing as expected.”

He appealed to Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko that if the Bisini soccer ground was not ready then the organisers needed to consider bringing the Games soccer competition to Lae, or other facilities around the country.

“Tkatchenko has seen the stadium in Lae, where lots of money was spent for renovations to host the PNG Games last year.

“I think the venues are capable of hosting Pacific Games matches.”
