Former teacher raises concern over missing names on roll
The National, Monday 23rd April 2012
A FORMER teacher says more than 200 eligible voters in their village including himself, his wife, their eight children and spouses are not registered on the electoral roll.
John Mondo, who is intending to contest the Kerowagi Open seat in Chimbu, said he was disappointed to find their names missing.
Mondo was a primary school teacher and an executive member of the PNG Teacher’s Association national management committee, representing the highlands for more than 20 years.
He resigned to contest the election.
He has urged the Electoral Commission to immediately carry out a common roll update in Kerowagi.
He said if so many names were not on the common roll in his village, the same could
be happening in the region.
It could mean chaos.
He commended the work of the electoral commission saying that despite the many difficulties faced, it had continued to ensure the elections were conducted.
