Foundation awards scholarships to 24
The National, Friday February 5th, 2016
TWENTY four non-school leavers who have missed out on placings at higher learning institutions around the country have been given an opportunity by Sime Darby Foundation to further their education.
Out of 417 applicants throughout the country, only 24 will begin studies this year at universities and colleagues throughout the country and Malaysia, foundation chief executive Yatela Zainal Abidin said yesterday.
Sime Darby president and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Bakke Salleh said the scholarships awarded by SDF in PNG were a fulfillment of a pledge made by Sime Darby.
The 24 scholarships are worth US$500,000 (K1.48 million).
“We are very proud to be able to complement the Government’s efforts to secure a promising and bright future for our young people,” Mohd Bakke said.
“The scholarships awarded reflect Sime Darby’s commitment, to nurture bright and talented Papua New Guineans to strive for excellence.”
