Foundation donates K15,000 to scholarship

THE New Britain Palm Oil (NBPOL) Foundation has donated K15,000 to the Soroptimist International PNG (SI-PNG) to support the newly established Karike Huhume memorial scholarship for girls.
NBPOL head of sustainability Ian Orrell and country manager Robert Nilkare handed over the cheque to SI-PNG president Kimberly Berem in Port Moresby last Wednesday.
Berem said the scholarship was in memory of the late Susan Karike Huhume to assist girls who came from broken homes, or stopped from continuing their education after grade 10 and 12.
The SI-PNG aims to raise K15,000 for the scholarship launched last year by Nanny Huhume, Susan’s husband.
It will commence this year with five girls each receiving K3,000 towards their education.
“The NBPO Foundation’s assistance is the only positive response received which goes to show that this organisation shares our sentiments and is willing to support our work to enable girls to further their education and better their lives,” Berema said.
