TWO elementary schools, Buakap and Busamang in Salamaua, Huon Gulf of Morobe received solar light donation from Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF) last month.
This is an initiative of the former student Jetta Caleb and supported by the KTF.
Caleb, who will graduate from the University of Papua New Guinea next month, said it was an honour to join Kokoda Track Foundation while being a student.
“Now one of my community’s needs being are met because of this network,” he said.
“Total of 350 solar were donated to two schools with an aim of motivating and supporting the students in rural village.
“They need to get sustainable and renewable energy (solar lights) to help them boost their studies at early age,” he said.
Caleb said students and teachers were given a solar each and are having extra study hours in the evening.
Busamang head teacher Kamdac Kisi said this is the first time for such donations to each student in school and was thankful.
“The support will help the students in their learning and also help the teachers to prepare their lessons,” said Kisi.
