Foundation focuses on high schools

DIGICEL PNG Foundation has incorporated secondary schools into its education infrastructure development projects.
The initiative was marked with the construction of its first secondary school project in partnership with Jubilee Catholic Secondary School in Port Moresby.
The two-storey double classroom project is the second following the launch of the Barakau Primary School’s building earlier this year.
The project budget is K1.16 million.
Digicel Foundation chief executive officer Serena Sasingian said this was the first time Digicel Foundation has looked into delivering a project for a secondary school.
She said the infrastructure projects had always focused on primary and elementary schools.
The foundation’s support came about after the board of Digicel Foundation was made aware of the shift classes that Jubilee Catholic Secondary School was implementing.
“We found out that Jubilee Secondary School was implementing shift classes, which meant that students would finish class at 5pm, and this was a safety concern for the parents and the teachers,” Sasingian said.
“As a foundation, we believe in the transformative power of education therefore, the school’s dedication towards not compromising the quality of education.”
