MELANESIAN Foundation has supplied more than 30,000 double desks to schools along the Sepik River in East Sepik, Madang, Milne Bay and other parts of the country.
Chairman Sir Peter Barter said delivering desks was one of the many activities the foundation did.
Recently, 60 double desks were delivered to Kopar, Boisa Island and schools in the Madang Lagoon.
The desks were taken aboard the Kalibobo Spirit assisted by a group of American tourists, who enjoyed the occasion and commented about the way in which the Melanesian Foundation had been able to raise funds to deliver such valuable infrastructure to the remote schools. Sir Peter said the supply of school desks was just one of the many activities the foundation had been involved with over the past 50 years.
“It was a positive way both MTS and our clients have been able to say thank you for the wonderful experience of visiting PNG,” he said.
“Regretfully, in recent years with a dramatic decrease in tourism coupled with poor marketing strategies to develop tourism by the Government and its agencies, the foundation was unable to raise as much money has it had done in previous years but due to the generosity of various organisations which wish to remain anonymous.”
