THE Digicel Foundation has given a fully-kitted ambulance to be used by the people of Telefomin in West Sepik.
It will be used to transport patients to the hospital and from the hospital to the airstrip for referrals and for medical evacuations.
The ambulance, which cost more than K180,000, was donated by the foundation through a partnership with the district development authority led by MP Solan Mirisim.
Mirisim thanked the Digicel Foundation, its management, board and the staff for assisting the people of Telefomin.
He said the first project delivered by the Digicel Foundation to the district was a double-classroom for the Hedwegi Primary School in the remote Namea local level government. The ambulance donation is the second.
Mirisim said the ambulance would complement the redevelopment of the Telefomin district hospital expected to be opened by the Prime Minister James Marape in November. The ambulance will be used to travel to villages to provide clinical support and help.
Project manager of the foundation Andrew Kalu William said the board and management, led by the chief executive officer Serena Sasingian partnered with the Telefomin development authority to provide the ambulance.
“We have the privilege to hand over the fully-kitted vehicle keys and the Motor Vehicle Insurance copy to the people of Telefomin,” he said.
