A FOUNDATION is helping to roll out the Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine in Gulf to protect lives in rural communities.
The Oil Search Foundation (OSF) is supporting the Gulf health authority (PHA), along with the Government and development partners, to ensure Papua New Guineans have access to the Covid-19 vaccine.
The foundation said the first groups to be vaccinated were health staff, other essential workers and people considered vulnerable.
The PHA vaccinated 2,445 people in this first round of vaccinations.
This was a 92 per cent coverage of the total estimated population of 2,800 for these groups.
According to the foundation, this now places Gulf, in the top four performing provinces on the Covid-19 vaccinations.
Gulf health authority chairman Gerea Aopi said they were working to ensure that as many members of the target groups were vaccinated.
“We want to see that people are well-informed and supported about the importance of being vaccinated,” he said.
“It’s our shared responsibility to keep each other safe.”
Gulf PHA Covid-19 vaccination campaign leader Sr Ekaloa Mefaramu was pleased that all 13 vaccination sites had delivered the required doses to the target populations.
