THE Kokoda Track Foundation (KTC) is helping communities in Northern affected by the recent 7.0 magnitude earthquake with water tanks.
The KTF team installed the 4,800-litre tanks mounted on concrete slabs and connected to buildings in the Killerton, Sanananda, Buna, Garara, Gona and Gewoto communities.
KTF’s Grayson Kaumi, who worked with the impacted community, highlighted the importance of the water tank to the people.
“The people are very happy to have these tanks,” he said.
“This will make life easier for women and children, saving time and distance they normally walk every day.”
With three-weeks of continuous work drawing to a close, Kaumi and his team are finalising installations so the villages will have reliable access to safe drinking water.
KTF chief executive officer Dr Genevieve Nelson said it was worrying to hear reports of earthquake affecting the province.
