THE Foundation for Rural Development (Ford), a non-government organisation operating in Jiwaka, will soon have a better building to operate and run its programmes.
Workmen are putting the finishing touches to a new two-storey building funded by the Japanese government at Kurumul.
Ford director Andreas Puu said it lost all important documents, office equipment and furniture in its rented office in Mt Hagen during the 2012 election.
Puu said its training programmes were greatly affected.
“I approached the Japanese Embassy for assistance, and they made funds available to construct a two-storey training and resource centre,” he said.
Puu said the new building had a conference area, kitchen, shared toilets and shower facilities for use during training.
It also has a reception, office space, storeroom and disabled accessibility ramp on the ground floor.
Puu said the top floor had 13 rooms for boarding, with a shared toilet and shower facilities, a spacious balcony and a long staircase to the ground level.
He thanked the Jiwaka government for allocating a portion of land for the building.
