THE Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation is targeting Hela through one of its principal programmes.

The ongoing national programme targets sports community leaders around the country.

The programme has been taken to the doorsteps of Hela sports leaders in the Pori, Koroba-Lake Kopiago and Komo districts. Thirty participants are part of the training programme.

Its sports administration level one covers areas in community sports problems, benefits of sports, constitution, meetings, public relations, sponsorship, competition draws, planning and running an event and guidelines for community sports leaders.

There have been two phases, with the first part looking at aspects of sports administration and phase two looking at the past performance of the Team Hela in the 2012 PNG Games to help them to prepare for the 2014 Games in Morobe.

The participants include all development officers in the districts and all technical officials who attended the 2012 PNG Games.

The programme gives them knowledge and skills in managing their community sports affairs.

Provincial sports officer, Ken Angobe has been tirelessly putting together all the programme logistics and making contact with the districts.

“Hela is a new province and desperately needs this type of programmes. With the Sports Foundation taking this programme to our doorsteps, it is a bonus and an excellent Christmas present,” he said.
