The National, Wednesday 18th April 2012
POLICE have arrested four men and are looking for two more in regards to the killing of station officer Sgt John Negerifaon in Goroka last week.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Supt Augustine Wampe has requested members of the public to keep a lookout for the man identified as Atuare Kiturep who he said was in possession of firearms including a shotgun he took from the slain police officer.
Sgt Negerifaon was killed while escorting an Asian businessman based in Okapa station to Goroka town last Tuesday morning.
The two were attacked at the Lufa High School junction section of the Lufa-Okapa road.
Police believed that the thugs took K20,000 from the businessman.
Supt Wampe identified the four men arrested for questioning as Avuze Aiye of Kami village, Mangil Oke of Rongo village, Colin Kavori of Oliguti village in Lufa district and Bafin Kaka of Okapa district.
He thanked his men and in particular the assistance provided by the public during the police investigation.
Police believe that Kiturep was the “one who pulled the trigger”in the killing of the police officer.
“The main suspect is on the run with his own firearm and the one that belongs to the policeman,” he said.
SWampe said anyone with information on the Kiturep and another man also on the run should call 5321764.
