SECURITY forces have found four empty ballot boxes and six bundles of ballot box tags in a teacher’s house in Wabag.
The officers were conducting a search in the Wabag primary school premises prior to the start of counting yesterday. They conducted the search before ballot boxes were taken there.
The teacher’s house, located in the school compound, was searched while the teacher was away.
Provincial police commander Supt Martin Lakari said the officers were on high alert for possible election-related problems.
He said they found the four empty ballot boxes and the bundles of tags in the teacher’s house.
Police are looking for the teacher who is on the run.
Lakari said there were reports of smuggled boxes and the raid was part of the plan to find the “illegal” boxes meant to disrupt counting.
He said the security forces would ensure counting continued without disruptions.
Counting began with the Kandep boxes when the returning officer and polling officers arrived in Wabag.
Polling was marred by a few disputes but all ballot boxes were delivered to the storage area in Wabag by security forces.
