THE administrators of the four provinces in Mamose failed to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Electoral Commission last week.
Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen said this had caused another setback in preparations for the local level government elections next month.
He said efforts by the PNGEC to get the administrators to sign the agreement in Wewak last week failed as the administrators did not attend the LLG election workshop held there.
“This is a setback in the preparations for the LLG elections and we hope that this will not be the case in the three other regions,” he said.
“However, we remain confident that all provincial administrations will sign the 2013 LLG elections MoA so that there is understanding and co-operation between them and Electoral Commission.”
Trawen said the agreement set out resourcing and responsibilities between the commission and provincial administrations so that both parties did not overlap programmes.
“The signing of 2013 LLG elections MoA between provincial administrations and the Electoral Commission was important because it will bind both parties as partners to implement the LLG elections.”
Trawen added that the Wewak workshop was organised for the Mamose provincial
administrators to sign the MoU.
He said the workshop for the Highlands region was held this week in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, while the New Guinea Islands and Southern region workshops would be held at the end of this month.
