FOUR new Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases were reported in Western on Wednesday, adding to the 79 reported on Tuesday, according to National Pandemic Response deputy controller Dr Daoni Esorom.
He said there were also two new cases each in the National Capital District and Madang, and one each from New Ireland, Manus, Jiwaka and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
The total Covid-19 cases is 18,203. There are 309 active cases.
Dr Esorom said of the Western cases, 75 per cent were from Middle Fly and 25 per cent from North Fly.
Both cases in Madang were from employees of RD Tuna.
“The case fatality rate is 1 per cent, active rate is 1 per cent and recovery rate is 98 per cent,” Dr Esorom said.
“The lack of testing and delays in receiving reports from the provincial health authorities and testing facilities remain a concern.
“The surveillance team is constantly identifying reporting gaps and are working with provinces to ensure these gaps are minimised.”
As of Aug 29, 134,444 people had been vaccinated with 102,204 receiving the first dose and 32,240 receiving both doses.
