FOUR teams remaining in the finals race for the Hula rugby league nines tournament will clash with each other next Tuesday at the Manea Manea Top-Up School oval, Central province, to keep their finals hopes alive.
Bariki, Keletiks, Manea Eagles and KVK will fight against each to determine the two top teams to face each other in the grand final for the K1,000 prize money up for grabs while third and fourth playoff for minor spots.
Tournament coordinator Laka Kala said the Christmas and New Year tournament was organised by the league committee in Hula village after they realized that the youths had passion in playing rugby league.
“We are diehard followers of Aussie rules, volleyball, cricket and soccer. Rugby league is more or less a new game to us,” Kala said.
He said the competition was introduced to the village two years ago.
Kala added that the interest shown by youths had inspired him to organise the competition during the festive season. The event had attracted seven teams.
It had also contributed positively to the behaviour of the youths during the festive period deterring them from causing trouble and engaging in illegal activities.
The competition had also paved the way for the selection of a team from Hula to participate in the Southern Regional Nines tournament in Port Moresby recently.
