FOURTEEN Consort Express Lines sponsored deck and engine officers who graduated recently from Fiji Academy in Suva, will develop their career in PNG maritime sector.
The company said in a statement that the officers obtained their “officer of the watch” certification after completing a 14-month course abroad.
“Influx of certified junior officers will greatly contribute to the development of Consort’s deck and engine departments as each graduate has received the best training in the Pacific and will now embark on furthering their careers in PNG’s maritime industry,” the statementsaid.
The courses included training in bridge resource management, engine room resource management and comprehensive simulator training sessions.
The training would allow the officers to sail up to second officer (deck) and third officer (engine) on Consort’s fleet of multipurpose vessels.
Consort Express Lines marine manager Edward Fitzgerald said they were happy to welcome the next generation of officers and maritime logistics experts.
“Consort Express Lines is proud as a company which continues to up-skill our staff through consistent training courses and further education,” Fitzgerald said.
“It is inspiring to see such a large group of hard-working Papua New Guinean cadets put everything into their studies.”
