THE Covid-19 death toll has risen to four after a 72-year-old man died last Friday in Port Moresby, an official says.
National Control Centre incident manager Dr Esorom Doani said the man from Mortlock, in Bougainville, was tested positive on Aug 12 and died on Aug 14.
“The 72-year-old suffered from severe respiratory illness and was incubated and placed on the ventilation, and had a history of diabetes,” he said.
He said they were still working out how to deal with Covid-19-related deaths, with families to be advised on how the bodies were to be buried.
The national total rose to 361, including 244 cases in Port Moresby and 98 in Western, five each in Central and Morobe, two in East New Britain, and one each in West New Britain, Southern Highlands, West Sepik, New Ireland, Bougainville, Milne Bay and Eastern Highlands.
Meanwhile, Doani said the Covid-19 had now affected 11 provinces.
He called on provinces to step up on testing.
“We now have increased testing capacity throughout the country and all provinces can now do their own tests through the Gyn-X machines,” he said.
Acting Health secretary Dr Paison Dakulala said three teams had been sent to Western as cases rose.

  • If died for covid-19 why keeping the body in the moque. thats dangerous
And not to have funeral services too. just wrap it up and dump it as other countries do

  • Its not “incubated” but intubated. And not “ventilation”, but ventilator! I think its good if our reporters can do a good research and edit before publishing.

If they are still working out on how to deal with the Covid-19 deaths, then how did they handled the corpse of the first three deaths?

  • Thank you tupla. When you see errors, please make corrections. That is how we will help each other to learn.
English is not our language. We all are still learning and when you are corrected by someone, please appreciate and acknowledge.

  • You idiots are driving the car the wrong way, what is the issue here!

Someone died from COVID19, and not spelling or grammar errors.

  • disposing of bodies will be a real change especially if they die in isolation and in large numbers. We may not have any funerals, just mass graves. Government should think of the worst case scenario and start planning ahead.

  • The people of Port Moresby are currently not obeying or following the new normal. The buses are carrying 25 to 30 passengers on board. People are playing cards and bingos in every settlement of the city and even every trade stores in the settlement area selling beer during curfew period.
So what is new normal and curfew and people are ignorant and not listening to the instructions of controller.

  • Lock down the country if this is true!why are we still operating normally isn’t our lives important??!

  • Hi All STOP urging about grammar on vocabulary, concerning about were to bury or how you will tackle that Virus. Is PNG a Christian Nation ? If PNG is a Christian Country than Government have to work together with Churches. My Fellow brothers and sisters Jesus is Coming soon, get ready. Through Prayer and worshiping the almighty God will is answer to the Virus.
