EASTERN Stars Football Club has applauded the sponsorship of Minister for National Planning and Monitoring and Member for Alotau, Charles Abel in the 2013 National Soccer League.
Franchise owner Joseph Ealedona said Abel had been very supportive of the club and they had discussed with him plans for football in Alotau, with the objective of taking the NSL to Alotau next season.
Ealedona said Eastern Stars was going into the 2013 season as a completely new team and would bring in five players from Alotau under the agreement with Abel to develop football in his electorate.
“I am satisfied with the team, most of whom are young talent that played in the Port Moresby Super League. We have brought in experienced coach Max Forster from Lae.
“We intend to bring in the Alotau boys within two weeks.  Former Alotau player Danny Banaba is already in Port Moresby.
“Eastern Stars FC will coach and mentor Alotau district teams for the Members Cup and the Alotau team for the Milne Bay Cup. Overall we want to lift up the standard of football in Alotau district and Milne Bay and maintain our PNG football champions tag.”
Ealedona said he would resign from the NSL board following the acceptance of Eastern Stars in the 2013 league.
“However, the board has asked me to remain in the marketing and development committee and assist in the organisation and planning of the competition.”
