ONE of the most underrated players in the bemobile Cup premier rugby league competition, Civpac NCDC Vipers’ outside centre Kevin Frank has finally caught the selectors’ eyes.
Frank was named in the PNG Prime Minister’s XIII team to play the visiting Australian Prime Minister’ XIII side next week.
Port Moresby Tarangau’s prodigal son had a nomadic season over the past three seasons playing for three different franchises before joining the Vipers this season, where he had performed consistently for the snakes despite their not making the finals.
Frank had a season with Toyota Mioks, Monier Broncos, Brian Bell Bulldogs, Masta Mak Rangers and Vipers.
Despite his consistency over the last three years, he was just knocking on the door and finally let in at the expense of several undisciplined representative footballers.
Frank has been consistently served with distinction for the franchises he played for throughout the then SP Cup and now the bemobile Cup competition.
The Vipers centre is the only debutant in the 20-man squad announced by chairman of selectors Arnold Krewanty yesterday.
The team comprises nine overseas-based players in Gold Coast Titans’ David Mead, Northern Pride’s Rod Griffin, Tu Moari, Jay Aston  (Australia); John Wilshire, Charlie Wabo, Makali Aizue, Menzie Yere and Stanley Gene (England).
Home-grown players are Anton Kui, Jessie Joe Parker (Muruks), George Moni, Rodney Pora, Larson Marabe (Guria), Glen Nami, Sigfred Gande (Lahanis), Benjamin John, Simon Young, Nixon Kolo (Rangers) and Frank (Vipers).
The notable omission from overseas is Neville Costigan (St George Dragons), whose team is still in the race for the NRL premiership.
Gene, who publicly announced his retirement from representative football during the World Cup last year, was talked into making a last appearance on home soil before drawing down the curtains on his colourful and illustrious football career, which took him half way around the world.
The selectors stressed on discipline when naming the team for the upcoming international rugby league match and strongly warned the home team to perform or they will not be included in PNG’s version of State of Origin matches.
The Origin games will come after the PM’s XIII match to select the Kumuls for the Pacific Cup next month.
