Fresh vaccination programme in NCD aimed at reaching people

THE mobile vaccination programme in the National Capital District (NCD) is into its second week of operation with the hope of reaching many more people.
For Moresby South, the NCD Health Authority (NCDHA) mobile vaccination team would be stationed at Badili Clinic and move to Lawes Road Clinic next week followed by Taurama until all the health facilities were covered.
A health official at Badili Clinic who didn’t want to be named said the NCD vaccination team was in-charge of the programme at the clinic and her team only supported where they could.
“We make awareness regarding the vaccination and inform the patients coming that vaccination is going on,” she said.
“If the people come for vaccination then they go straight to the vaccination station.”
A doctor attached with the Moresby South vaccination team, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said last week they were stationed at the Kaugere Clinic where 61 people were vaccinated.
She said three of those received their second dose.
“On the first day not a lot of people come, but the number starts increasing as we go along,” she said.
“When people learn that vaccination is going on they come forward. Our awareness team were out in the community doing awareness and we followed after.”
The NCDHA is still rolling out the AstraZeneca vaccination at Rita Flynn and people are encouraged to go for vaccination.
The Sinopharm vaccine is being rolled out at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
