A fuel trader at Voco Point in Lae has donated a laptop to the beachfront police station.
Komokong Fuel Distributors, run by brothers Yarks and Stanley Samo, from Busong village in Labuta, presented the laptop to Lae police station commander James Luana and dog unit officer-in-charge Brian Panda.
Yarks Samo said they recognised the significance of police operations at Voco Point, which catered for Labuta, Finschhafen, Tewae-Siassi, Salamaua and Morobe Post to Northern.
He said that police presence was critical at Voco Point to prevent illegal activities while instilling confidence in the people.
The Samos began operations at Voco Point in 2012.
However, the burning down of the police station forced them to quit until businessman Hilmar Wong and Eddie Engineering rebuilt it.
Samo said that donating a K1000 laptop may be small but it would help Voco Point police maintain daily operational records.
He urged the provincial transport board to enforce National Maritime Safety Authority (NMSA) policy to stop dinghy operators from drinking at work.
