THE much-anticipated Trukai Olympic Day Fun Run is set to kick off in Port Moresby this Sunday at the Sir John Guise Stadium track field.
Registration starts at 6am and the run officially starts at 7.15am.
The Port Moresby Trukai Fun Run was delayed due to the national election which took place last month, while Lae, Popondetta, Tabubil, Kavieng, Lihir, Kokopo, Mt Hagen and Goroka took place on July 8.
The Trukai Fun Run was reported to have gone extremely well in all participating centres, Lae and Mt Hagen reported their highest participation with 12,000 and 1,000 people respectively.
The new look Trukai Fun Run shirt which now comes as a polo shirt was much sought after by both young and old runners.
Port Moresby residents are urged to come along and enjoy the day with their families and be a part of the biggest social event in Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific.
Earlier this year, Trukai Industries Ltd presented K500,000 to the PNG Sports Federation and Olympic Committee. This money was raised from the sales of this year’s Trukai Fun Run shirts.
The Trukai Olympic Day Fun Run is the biggest fundraiser for the PNG Sports Federation & Olympic Committee’s annual sporting calendar.
This year all funds raised from the sales of the Trukai Fun Run shirts went towards the 2012 London Olympics which saw PNG send off eight of its elite athletes to compete in the games.
