A RECENTLY-formed health advocate charity group held its second fundraising activity on Feb 25 in East New Britain to buy a bio-chemistry analyser for use in the early detection of lifestyle diseases.
The fundraising included a wheelbarrow push from Papindo, in Takubar, to the main provincial market in Kokopo where a barbecue for mothers was staged.
The first fundraising started on Jan 6 at the Kalabond Field by mostly youths from Sikut and Vudal where live bands such as Barike, Warehouse, Jokers Band, Earth Quake Fever played and raised K1,594.30.
The fundraising will culminate with the official launching of the group and a corporate dinner at the Gazelle International on March 10.
Tables will be going for K200 for individuals and K2,000 for a table of 10 for those wishing to support the cause.
People wanting to make donations can deposit money with the group’s BSP Kokopo branch on account number 1005437338 BSP.
Interim chairwoman of the Barike Band Tingim Life Concept Joan Lessy is appealing to business houses, individuals, the East New Britain communities living in other provinces and the general public to help where they can with cash or kind.
Lessy said many lives which could have been saved through early detection had not been done because an analyzer was not available in hospitals and clinics.
Costing around K75,000, the group has enlisted the help of New Guinea Islands Diagnostic and Laboratory Service based in Kokopo to help with purchasing, logistics, installation and training of staff at the Butuwin health clinic.
Lessy said that Butuwin was chosen because it was a public clinic and would be cheaper for people and its accessibility due to it central location.
She said that the group was advocating healthy lifestyles by conducting awareness and education to the people of the province.
