FUNDING allocated to the Oro Restoration Authority has been misused, National Planning Minister Charles Abel told Parliament yesterday.

He said the funds were allocated to the Oro Restoration Authority in the aftermath of Cyclone Guba which devastated the province in November 2007.

Abel was responding to queries raised by Sohe MP Delilah Gore on the usage of funds under the authority.

“I know that Northern province is still suffering from the after-effects of Cyclone Guba, particularly to its infrastructure with all its bridges washed away,” Abel said. “We know that a restoration authority was established for the very purpose to address these issues with some significant amounts of money appropriated to it.”

Abel said it is apparent that provinces such as Northern have been neglected over the years.

He said at least K20 million was given to the authority for education rehabilitation in the province but the information with him on its usage was incomplete.

Abel assured Gore that an investigation will be conducted to verify how much money was allocated and how much was used and on which restoration programs.
