Futsal competition attracts 20 ‘world’ teams

THE 2010 futsal “world cup” themed competition played at the Life Gymnasium at the Holiday Inn Hotel is now into its fifth week of competition.
The men’s division has attracted 12 teams while the mixed division has eight sides.
The event  has added a lot of flair and colour to the weekly competition which continues to attract a wide audience every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
The inclusion of  Barrick Porgera-sponsored Cameroon and Nigeria has also given the competition a wider appeal.
In the mixed division, current leaders England, led by Esi Loan University players Niel Hans, Clement Peka and PNG national women’s representative Kathy Horris, remain unbeaten.
They are followed by the Kisakiu and Oripa Popat of New Zealand.
Other teams, Brazil led by Russell Inai, Lawrence Diau and Martha Kiapin and Holland, led by the Dobbin sisters, Karyn and Talitha and Julie Alau, have also been competitive.
The men’s division is full of class, particularly, Uruguay and France, who boast of a “youthful” line-up of stars from the past.
The Uruguayans, capably led by Joseph Saleu, Desmond Waku, John Davani and Batman Furigi have set the courts alight.
Not to be outdone, the France boast of Paul Komboi, Geoffrey Emang, Tapas Posman and Wayne Kasou. 
Ghana, who are led by Simon Dobbin and his sons, have also displayed some thrilling and exciting football.
Current leaders Portugal, who are led by Robert “Cristiano Ronaldo” Popat, Roniel Igens and Jason Wesley, are closely followed by Paraguay, boast of a colorful line up of David Taro, Poakot Poesi and Adrian Waleilia.
