THE Fuzzy Wuzzy Nines rugby league tournament kicks off at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby tomorrow, says an official.
Tournament director Manu Lofena said teams were aware of the times for their matches during the three-day event.
He said the teams had been warned to respect the decisions of the referees’ and touch judges.
Lofena said a non-refundable appeal fee of K500 should be submitted straight after the game to the committee to deliberate on.
“We have secured the services of veteran Guma Opi to manage the referees and touch judges to ensure fair play and transparency,” he said.
Lofena warned that match official, who accept bribes from team managements and players, would be removed from the tournament.
“This is our event and we call the shots. No-one will tell us what to do it’s our decision to run the show,” he said. “Each team will play three pool matches before the top-16 sides go through the cup and plate playoffs while the bottom-eight vie for the bowl.
“The winners in the cup playoffs go through to the quarterfinals, semifinals and preliminary finals while the losers are eliminated to the plate quarterfinals.”
