AFTER five weeks of competition, the Eastern Papua Carnival (EPC) ended on a high note for Galea, who came out victorious over the Eastern Football Club (EFC) 1-0, in an exciting men’s grand final encounter at the University oval on Saturday.
Galea scored eight minutes in the first half from a cross which landed on the boot of Fabian Roroma who scored in front of the goal mouth, to secure their second title in one of Milne Bay’s top soccer competitions.
Galea maintained an undefeated run in this year’s tourney and earned the favourites tag which they proved in the final and happily walked away with the cup and K3,000 prize money.
Newcomers EFC proved to be a handful against the EPC giants, however, could not quite manage to get the ball past Galea’s last man in defence.
Galea coach Augustine Samson said he had a very balanced side and with outstanding players such as Barry Touliku in the midfield and attacking flanker Fabian Milo who contributed immensely to the team’s fortunes and was overwhelmed with the side’s performance this year and were looking forward to defending their title next year.
In the women’s grand final, LSC defeated Gabutu 3-2 in a penalty shootout to claim the first prize of K2,000 with the trophy.
