Gamato, Hetinu to make submissions against corrupt allegations

TWO senior election officials will make submissions in their trial in the Waigani National Court on Friday after prosecution closed its case following evidence from 11 witnesses.
Former electoral commissioner Patilias Gamato and National Capital District election manager Terence Hetinu were scheduled to make their submissions yesterday but that didn’t eventuate because their lawyer informed the court that his computer crashed and he was unable to prepare submissions.
Justice Teresa Berrigan adjourned the matter to Friday to allow defence time to sort out the computer and prepare submissions.
Hetinu and Gamato were committed to stand trial to answer to allegations of corruption involving K184,300 to conspire to defraud during the 2017 national elections.
Their bails were extended.
