The 2017 national election report will be tabled soon in Parliament, says Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato.
Gamato said it was completed and copies were given to Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari.
“The report was also presented during the first inter-department election committee and we are now preparing the report to be presented to the National Executive Council before it can be tabled in Parliament.”
Gamato said the report highlighted the issues, challenges and amendments that were made during the elections and also recommended for the government to use technology to assist in voter registration, identification and counting of ballots.
He said the Electoral Commission was working on its new corporate plan for 2018-2022.
“There has been a series of workshops conducted by the strategic working group under different strategic pillars to develop the new corporate plan,” Gamato said.
“The new corporate plan encompasses major events, including the 2018 LLG elections, boundaries reviews, and the 2022 national election.”
Gamato said that he hoped to launch the corporate plan by the end of next month.
