THE Papua New Guinea Games Council is set to meet in Mendi this week to review the progress of preparations for next year’s event, according to an official.
Council head John Susuve said chairman Peter Tsiamalili Jr had confirmed Wednesday as the date for the meeting for the executive council and its 22 general members. “The purpose of the meeting is to ensure members and stakeholders must see for themselves the current development of infrastructure and civil works taking place in Mendi,” he said in a statement. “It is important that the decisions must be made in regards to what is transpiring currently and the dates earmarked for the Games.
“Further, the council will have to compile a report through the members to present to Sport Vice-Minister Wesley Raminai who will also be on the ground along with the host organising committee chairman and the National Planning Department on the status of developments in Mendi.”
Susuve said the members of the 22 provinces had been requested to contact the PNG Games Council Secretariat through Thomas Kahai and Raina Wareba to facilitate preparations for ticketing and travel movements for one provincial representative only to Mendi,, Southern Highlands.
“It will be an important opportunity to assess together and properly scrutinise the development of this meeting,” Susuve said.
“So that important decisions are made at the end of the day,” he added.
