THE PNG Sports Federation and Olympic Committee and the Pacific Games Organising Committee announced two events to mark their preparations for the 2015 Pacific Games at the PNGSFOC head office in Port Moresby yesterday.
The launching of the logo design competition and the call for expressions of interest in voluntary help for the 2015 Games, marked a step forward in the preparations for the games.
In attendance were the four key members of the PNG 2015 Games Organising Committee – Emma Waiwai the chairperson, president Sir Henry ToRobert, senior vice-president Mel Donald and secretary-general Auvita Rapilla.
Waiwai made the announcement of the logo design competition, the first of the two projects for the committee
She said the competition details would be distributed to all schools in the country through the media press and urged everyone to participate.
She also stated that the winning design would have to capture the spirit of the Pacific Games and Port Moresby as the host city.
The second major announcement was an invitation to all sporting enthusiasts who would be interested to work as volunteers during the 2015 Games to put forward their expression of interest.
The volunteers would be required in nine key functional areas – sports management; revenue; marketing and communication; security; games support; ceremonies and cultural events; technology and systems; human resources; and commercial services.
She took the opportunity to thank the major sponsors of the two major projects – Theodist, Media Partners and The National newspaper.
Towards the end of the meeting, Donald announced that funds allocated for the 2015 Games would be finally released as there was now a structured committee to implement plans.
She added that the state-of-the-art stadium that was planned would not be built due to the time constraints, but she reassured stakeholders that the aquatic centre and the Games Village would definitely be established.
