THE 2015 Pacific Games marketing team has pledged to work with the media in getting the correct information to the people as the capital city prepares to host the quadrennial regional event.

Marketing team leader Ken Siminji said the purpose of the meeting with the media was for them to engage and work with media in the approach to the Pacific Games as partners.

He said the 2015 Pacific Games afforded the opportunity to change positive mind-sets through accurate and inclusive reporting.

“How can we leverage support from interested sponsors, community and government for that matter,” he said.

Siminji said some areas of collaborative reporting would be required for ongoing community engagement programmes to spread awareness of the Games among communities in Port Moresby and those along the Magi Highway and Hiritano highways.

“All the 20 provinces outside will be visited to spread the message of the games,” he said.

“We will engage government and local MPs about areas they can get involved in, how the Games relay and mascot will visit each province and related activities around it – as well the opportunity to connect with the Pacific and bring the ‘games experience’ to the people,” he said.

Siminji said as an event of national significance: “We need all the stakeholders, that is the government, the corporate sector, the media and the people of Papua New Guinea to do their bit, get involved, support Team PNG and ultimately deliver a successful and best ever Pacific Games.”

He said the marketing team would brief the government on their role towards helping delivering a successful Games.

The presentation will take place at the Gateway Hotel in Port Moresby from 3pm-5pm.
