MEDICAL equipment provided by Health Department to the Pacific the Games polyclinic can last for a long time, an official says.

Director of the Pacific Games polyclinic, Dr Christopher Kinipi, said the medical equipment “will last for years”.

He said all the equipment had been delivered, including the dental chair which came with all the accessories. Others are a scanning machine and ultra-sound scanning machine.  Kinipi said the polyclinic at the University of PNG was where the equipment was kept.

He said athletes with severe injuries would be sent to the Port Moresby General Hospital emergency ward. Those with minor injuries will be treated at the Games site.

He said some doctors serving in other parts of the country were in Port Moresby. Most are volunteer doctors based in Port Moresby.

“These doctors are from different medical specialties and they will be working 24 hours during the Pacific Games,” Kinipi said.

“We have a good cover of doctors, physio-therapists, pharmacists and dentists.”

It was reported last week that the health department had given K2.5 million worth of clinical equipment to the UPNG polyclinic.
