Gaming board donates tuition fees to 40 students

THE National Gaming Control Board (NGCB) recently donated and settled the 2021 tuition fees of 40 tertiary students in Papua New Guinea.
“Given the current economic hardship, we needed to help some students pursue their tertiary education to become productive adults and our future leaders,” NGCB acting chief executive officer Imelda Agon said.
“The recipients applied through the NGCB’s give back programme seeking financial assistance to continue with their academic pursuit.”
Agon said the assistance covered full tuition fees and all costs associated with their boarding.
The Government, through the board of trustees of the community benefit fund, unanimously approved the release of the school fee assistance funds to support the students.
Agon said education was a shared responsibility and the NGCB was pleased to contribute its support.
“This donation will help alleviate some of social and economic burdens that families face in providing education for their children,” she said.
“Despite the down-turn in the economy and the impact of the (Covid-19) pandemic, the NGCB continues to assist the parents and guardians in the higher education sector.”
Don Bosco Technological Institute final year student Charmaine George said organisations such as the NGCB gave second chances to students like herself to pursue academic goals, aspirations and excellence.
“My mother is the sole provider of my family and watching her struggle so hard this year to fund my tuition fee is very painful,” she said.
“I did not want to see my mother carry the burden alone so I decided to seek assistance through various organisations but to no avail.
“It is truly a lifetime blessing for NGCB to pay my full tuition fee for this year.
“I thank the Almighty for His endless love and blessings shown through the NGCB.”
University of Papua New Guinea student Sebastian Kewa Michael also shared similar sentiments for NGCB’s life-changing support to his family and education.
