Gaming board donates vehicles to Ijivitari police

Papua

THE Ijivitari district in its bid to address lawlessness has assisted the police buy two vehicles for K278,000.
The vehicles were sponsored by the National Gaming Control Board and purchased from Boroko Motors.
MP Richard Masere said with the recent rise in criminal activities in the province and the jail breakout at Biru, police would need vehicles for their work.
He said the vehicles would be used mainly for awareness on illegal activities, including production and consumption of homebrew and cultivation of drugs.
“It’s an initiative to address homebrew and marijuana. That’s a big concern in the district,” Masere said.
“We already have a number of deaths related directly to homebrew and this effort is to strengthen our law enforcement agencies to carry out their jobs.
“They will also carry out awareness programmes to educate people on the effects of homebrew and the impact on social issues it has on the communities.
“We thank the National Gaming Control Board for their generous support which is timely. It has come at a time when there has been an increase in criminal activities and this logistical support will assist the police in recapturing the 17 (escaped) prisoners.”
Acting director of the Gaming Control Board Community Benefit Fund Rayleen Kurua said they were happy to support Masere.
