THE National Gaming Control Board has donated a new ambulance to Sanap Community Health Post in the Mul-Baiyer district, Western Highlands.
Board chairman Pastor Charles Lapa and one of his directors, Steven Pim, gave the ambulance, which cost K165,000, to Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority and board of Sanap community health post at a ceremony yesterday in Mt Hagen.
Lapa said his board was happy to support the health post’s work towards quality healthcare.
He said the ambulance was bought through the board’s Community Benefit Fund.
“I understand that the health post is running programmes on TB, HIV/AIDS, antenatal care, family planning, outreach, and other primary health service that needs transport to move around,” he said.
Pastor Lapa said records show that 50 to 60 patients were being treated or referred to Mt Hagen general hospital on a daily basis.
Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority fleet manager Peter Nen thanked the board for its support.
Neng said that there were many health post in the province without ambulance and Sanap was lucky to have a new one.
He said that a global positioning system would be installed in the ambulance to monitor its movement to ensure there was no misuse.
Health post chairman Tom Wate thanked the board. He said the ambulance would be controlled by the Provincial Health Authority.
