SOUTH Fly MP Aide Ganasi is urging contractors engaged to develop Western to be honest when carrying out their assessment.
“For far too long, the province has suffered at the hands of contractors who are paid huge sums of money but never carry out any work,” Ganasi told heads of departments during a provincial administration briefing forum in Daru last Friday.
“Contractors must be honest when doing an assessment and tell us the amount of money they need to complete the project so we can source money to top it up.”
Ganasi told the department heads that the tender process was a painful process and he did not know how some contractors got approval to engage in projects.
“We went through an induction and they talked about this.
“The Central Tender Board process is corrupt. Some contractors are not qualified and this must stop.”
Ganasi said Western was very attractive to contractors because of the resources it has but whatever money that spins off from projects must be given back to the province.
“We lobbied for the mining ministry but the prime minster told us that other coalition partners also wanted that ministry and we lost in our bid.
“In South Fly alone in 2002 up until 2012 a lot of money has gone out but no project has started.
“We need to revisit the projects.”
