THE son of a village court magistrate murdered last week was killed in retaliation of his slaying of a gang member in Tapini, Goilala, Central, police say.
Central police commander Chief Insp Tapp Opai confirmed the killing of the man last week.
Earlier in the month, the magistrate was killed – shot and chopped up – over a land dispute.
According to reports received by Insp Tapp, the magistrate’s son was having issues with thefts from his garden and was waiting in the garden to see who was stealing.
“He waited until the early hours of the morning when a group turned up at the garden to steal the food he was growing,” he said.
“He chopped the person who was allegedly leading the group, killing him instantly.
“In retaliation, the group turned on him, chasing him down the hill and chopped him up as well.”
Insp Opai said lawlessness in the district was growing and in response to the two latest killings, he was sending a team to Tapini.
“A team will be travelling up to Goilala and will spend a month there maintaining law and order and also investigating the three murders that have occurred so far this month,” he said.
