PAPUA New Guinea could not muster enough runs to give Scotland a decent challenge in their opening match of the U19 Cricket World Cup on Saturday.

The Garamuts scored a paltry 108 runs (36.3 overs) with not one batsman reaching even 20 runs at the ICC Academy in Dubai.

Kiplin Doriga hit 19 opening the innings but that was as high as any Garamut got as the next best figure was 15 scored by four batsmen.

Scotland’s attack was led by left arm spinner Chayank Gosain (3-17) who started the rot claiming Doriga and opening partner Raho Sam (3).

Scotland’s bowlers made their batsmen’s job an easy one and they obliged getting the required 109 in 29.4 overs for the loss of four wickets.

Despite some early wickets taken by Alei Nao (2-28), defending 108 was always going to be difficult.

Alexander Muir’s unbeaten 39 and  Nick Farrar’s 26  plus a quick fire 17 from Kyle Stirling ensured the Scots victory.

This was six-wicket win for a side the Garamuts would have penciled in as the one they had the best chance of beating in the group (A) that includes India and Pakistan.
