THE PNG Garamut U19 cricket team is all fired up for next year’s International Cricket Competition (ICC) U19 World Cup in New Zealand.
The competition will start on Jan 15 with 16 teams and will end on Jan 30.
The countries taking part are placed in groups.
PNG is placed in the Group D which include Pakistan, Bangledesh and the West Indies.
The other groups are: Group A – India, England, Afghanistan and Hong Kong;
Group B – South Africa, Australia, Ireland and USA; and
Group C – New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Canada.
Teams from six associate nations coming through a qualifying tournament in Canada last September will be competing with the 10 full ICC members for the U19 World cup.
Subsequent to being crowned the winners of the East Asia Pacific tournament in May, the PNG Garamut then went on to qualify for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in September for their fifth straight U/19 World Cup appearance in New Zealand next month after finishing equal second.
The qualification is the PNG’s best ever result at the ICC U19 World Cup qualifiers in Canada.
Papua New Guinea’s full squad will likely include John Reva (C), Charles Amini, Sese Bau, Jonathan Diho, Raymond Haoda, Steven Eno, Jason Kila, Timothy Mou, Vagi Oala, Rogeauka Roge, Heni Siaka, Lega Siaka, Lega Tau, Toua Tom and Tony Ura.
The final line-up is yet to be made.
