Garden Hill market

Letters

ILLEGAL markets in Port Moresby is getting out of hand.
The filthy activities lining up the Garden Hill Street leaves little or no space for residents who live and travel to and fro daily.
The residents are taxpayers who are heavily taxed by the government. How much tax do the settlers pay? Not much or nothing at all, yet they are a menace on the streets with no respect to others who commute daily. These settlers are occupying every space along the road, increasing the chances of accidents. We do not need to wait for accidents to happen. We need to prevent accidents from happening.
NCDC should close the market and free-up the road for people and cars to use.
The street market is a haven for criminal elements. It is also an eyesore and a health hazard.
The solution is simple: Close the market and stop the sale of betel nuts at Garden Hill.
Do it before the Apec Leaders’ Summit.
