MONI Plus Gazelle remain hot on the heels of leaders United Sisters after flogging Wantoks 28-3 in the Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association A-Grade competition at the Bisini Diamonds on Saturday.
It was one-way traffic as Gazelle – with better batting and fielding – forced Wantoks onto the back foot.
Gazelle scored home runs in all the innings with Navasha Pilak (three), Aida Pontrket Sharon Pamel (three), Jenny Pilak (three) Naomi Totil (three), Damaris Palanga (two), Dona Misikaram (two), Matilda Pontriket (two), Lucy Totil (one) and Sharon Totil (one) getting on the score sheet.
Gazelle played as a team and remained focused as they went out dismantling their opponents with each home run.
The winless Wantoks replied with three runs through veteran Kolish Banam, Rose Mohe and Etty Passingan. Veterans in the likes Sandra Sawaeaba, Pala Manet and company tried their best to match Gazelle but their opponents had too much class.
If Saturday’s result is anything to go by, Banam and her teammates are in for a long season unless they hit a purple patch or consider introducing younger players.
Regardless of whatever approach they take, a break during the festive season will give Wantoks time to regroup before resuming their campaign in the New Year.
After round three, the unbeaten Sisters lead the competition with eight points followed by Gazelle, Bears (six), Stingerz, Saints (four), Chebu, Mariners (two), Wantoks, Yokomo (zero).
